Signs You Need a New Shower Head
In general, there are four big signs that your shower head is at the end of its life. The first is a leak. If your shower head leaks, it’s got to go. The second sign is changes in water pressure. If you start losing water pressure, it’s probably from blockage created by hard water residue. Speaking of hard water, if you get buildup on the shower head itself, you should go ahead and replace the fixture. The last sign is arguably the most important. If you don’t like your shower head, why are you putting up with it? This is an accessible bathroom upgrade. Don’t tolerate a shower head that you hate. Go ahead and replace it with something you love.
How to Replace Your Shower Head
When it comes to replacing your shower head, it’s usually not a surgical procedure. Once you get your new shower head, you want to go ahead and assemble it according to any instructions that came with it (not all heads need assembly). When that is done, remove the old head. Make sure the water is off. Then, simply unscrew the head where it attaches to the pipe coming out of the wall. It should be hand loose. If it isn’t, you can follow this guide to get it off. Once the old head has been removed, you want to clean and dry the threads on the pipe. Remove existing tape and make sure the threads are nice and clear. When that is finished, you’re going to wrap seal tape around the threads and press it in. At this point, you can take the new shower head and screw it into the base. Hand-tight is good enough. In fact, be careful not to over-tighten the fixture. When everything is in place, turn on the water and check for leaks. Congratulations! You have a new shower head.
