Floors First

This is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and it’s 36 inches by 36 inches. The shower in your home doesn’t have to be this size, but if it was built to ADA standards, that’s how much space it currently uses. You can also measure the floor of your shower to see exactly how big it is. One way or another, it’s important to know this size.
Then Measure the Walls
When you’re done with the floor, you can move on to the walls. Again, sizes will vary, but for a standard shower, the walls are seven feet high. That means that your standard shower walls are seven feet by three feet. If you have one wall, that’s 21 square feet that need to be covered. Each additional wall is another 21 square feet. Good job! You now have the dimensions of your shower, which means you’re only one step away from seeing how much tile you need.
Factor in the Size of Your Tiles
The last step is to pick your tile. As if this wasn’t all complicated enough, tile sizes also vary. The trick is to pick a tile that you really like. Then, you can see how big it is.
